Arrivals to nominations and access to healthcare

Hello and welcome to Monday’s blog (sorry we are a bit late!) where we are continuing to focus on arrivals preparations. Today we will look at arranging ‘arrivals’ to our nominated residences, some important info about registering with a local doctor’s surgery and recommended vaccinations to think about. Grab a cup of your favourite beverage and have a read through.

Arrivals to a nominated residence
Students who have accepted an offer for one of our nominated residences: Point Exe, Northfield, Northernhay House, Clifford House or The Printworks are not required to complete the online eInduction or book an arrival time through the university. You will be contacted by your specific residence in order to arrange your arrival. Please see information below about their opening times over the Arrivals weekend:

Point Exe – Open 9.00am to 4.30pm Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September – book a slot directly with Point Exe.
Northfield – Open 9:00am to 4.00pm both Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September – no need to book a slot, you can just arrive.
Northernhay House – 9:00am to 4.00pm both Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September – no need to book a slot, you can just arrive.
Clifford House – Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – no need to book a slot. If you wish to arrive prior to Saturday 14 September, please arrange directly with with Clifford House.
The Printworks – Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – no need to book a slot. If you wish to arrive prior to Saturday 14 September, please arrange directly with The Printworks.

Registering with a GP in Exeter
We recommend that you register with a GP in Exeter as soon as possible. It’s much better do this before you might actually need to see a doctor because if you’re feeling unwell, the last thing you’ll want to do is to fill out a lot of paperwork.

For those studying on the Streatham Campus then we recommend you look to our very own Student Health Centre which is located on campus. You can register online before you arrive. Don’t worry – you won’t need a room number for this.

If you’ll be based at Rowancroft or studying at St Lukes then we recommend registering with the Heavitree Practice.

Useful health advice
The Student Health Centre recommends Expert Self Care, a free app providing health advice for students. This is available for both Android and Apple devices within your own app store. You can search ‘Expert Self-Care – Student’ in app stores for further information.

Meningitis and MMR vaccinations
The Health Centre recommends that you have the Meningitis ACWY vaccine before you come to university. This protects you from four strains of meningitis and septicaemia. Students up to the age of 25 can get this vaccine for free. The NHS also recommend the MMR vaccination for Measles, Mumps and Rubella. If you haven’t yet had this vaccination or are unsure, do check with your GP. If it’s not possible to get the vaccination before you come, the NHS recommend you should have it as soon as possible once you arrive.
