You’re a few weeks into your new life in Exeter and you may already be hearing from other students or local agents that you need to start looking for next year’s accommodation. If that’s the case, please don’t panic – help is here.

Move Smart

Together with Exeter Students’ Guild, we’ll be helping you to Move Smart – take your time, understand all your options and make the right choice for you when it comes to finding a place to live.

Although you may be feeling pressure to start your search early, it’s good to know that there are different accommodation options available.

Take the Pressure Off and Broaden Your Horizons

If you want a particular type of accommodation in close proximity to campus and it’s on a popular street, you may need to act quickly to tick it off your wish list. But you need to be certain you have made the right choice – on price, people to live with and the quality of the accommodation – before you commit yourself to a legally binding contract.

By being open to other options, such as locations slightly further away from the University, or a type of accommodation that you hadn’t previously considered, you’ll take the pressure off yourself and buy time to research, ensuring you’re making the right decision for you.

Help is Here

Over the next term and beyond, you’ll find a wealth of relevant information through the campaign, including:

  • Where to look, how to look and what to look for
  • What you can afford, what your rent includes and things to look out for when viewing a property
  • How to decide who to live with and how to find those people
  • Tips from students who have previously been through the moving experience

Events

We have a range of drop-in events over the coming months, including in university accommodation with the Residence Life Team, and Flatmate Finder events with the Students’ Guild. At these events, you can:

  • Ask questions and get advice on anything related to finding and moving into private accommodation
  • Find potential people to live with
  • Get advice on settling in and integrating into life in the city
