{"id":10163,"date":"2026-04-09T11:18:34","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T10:18:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/accommodation\/?p=10163"},"modified":"2026-04-09T11:18:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T10:18:38","slug":"accommodation-application-faqs-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/accommodation\/accommodation-application-faqs-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Accommodation Application FAQs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As our accommodation application system opened this week, we&#8217;ve put together some of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) we get asked by students, to try and help make your application process run smoothly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where can I find my Student ID number?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When the University Admissions team wrote to you with your offer of study, the email would have contained your Exeter student ID number on it. It will also be quoted on any other correspondence from Admissions. It is 9 digits long and is likely to start with 75 or 76.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why do I keep getting an error message when I try to register my account?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If there is any mismatch between the details which you have entered and those held on our system, you may see an error message stating that the registration details you have provided are invalid with the following information:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAll students must have a&nbsp;<strong>FIRM<\/strong>&nbsp;offer confirmed with the University of Exeter in order to be able to register an accommodation account.<br><strong>Undergraduate students<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 you must have confirmed on UCAS that Exeter is your FIRM choice, not an Insurance choice.<br><strong>Postgraduate students&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 you must have accepted your course offer AND paid your tuition fee deposit AND for these funds to have been received by the University.<br>In all instances there can be a delay of&nbsp;<strong>up to 48 hours<\/strong>&nbsp;after your course offer has been made Firm before you will be able to register an account and apply online. If you are still unable to activate your account after this time, please&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exeter.ac.uk\/study\/accommodation\/contact\/\"><em>contact us<\/em><\/a><em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is usually because of one (or more!) of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>You are using your UCAS ID number rather than your Exeter Student number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your name needs to match our records&nbsp;exactly. If you have multiple forenames or a double-barrelled surname then you might need to check with us how it has been formatted on our system. Please don\u2019t use nicknames.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have not yet accepted Exeter as your FIRM choice (remember you may need to give it up to 2 days after firming for your records to be updated). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Postgraduate students also need to have paid their tuition fee deposit and for it to have been received and processed by the university.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your date of birth needs to be in the format DD\/MM\/YYYY<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Password needs to meet our security criteria: at least 8 letters with at least 1 number and 1 capital (uppercase) letter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The other possibility is that you already have an accommodation account which you registered last year, but then deferred your study place. If you have forgotten your original password, click on the \u201cForgotten your password\u201d link on the Login page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you still aren\u2019t able to register,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.exeter.ac.uk\/study\/accommodation\/contact\/\">contact us<\/a>&nbsp;for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do I update my account details?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can manage your accommodation account details online through the \u2018Account\u2019 tab. Here you can reset your password. If you wish to change your login email address, go to \u2018Maintain Account\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any other personal details will need to be updated either through UCAS or through the admissions team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How many preferences do I have when I apply for accommodation and do I need to select all of them?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For 2026\/27 applications which are submitted before 31\u00a0July, you will need to select 4\u00a0preferences. You will only be able to submit your application once you have added 4 preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some groups are offered less than 4 preferences, eg. BMBS or Nursing student applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"474\" height=\"202\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/accommodation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2026\/04\/Accom-FAQs-image-1.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of Accommodation preferences section of the accommodation application form\" class=\"wp-image-10561\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/accommodation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2026\/04\/Accom-FAQs-image-1.png 474w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/accommodation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2026\/04\/Accom-FAQs-image-1-300x128.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have selected the appropriate number of preferences for your application type, the &#8216;NEXT&#8217; button will show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"260\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/accommodation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2025\/04\/Accom-FAQs-image-2.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of accommodation preferences section of accommodation application form\" class=\"wp-image-10563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/accommodation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2025\/04\/Accom-FAQs-image-2.jpg 400w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/accommodation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2025\/04\/Accom-FAQs-image-2-300x195.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How can I edit my application?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It is possible to amend or delete an application but&nbsp;<strong>only<\/strong>&nbsp;before it has been submitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Log in to your accommodation account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to the \u2018My Application and Booking\u2019 tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u2018View\u2019 against your application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To amend your application, please select \u2018edit\u2019 against the relevant section then \u2018save\u2019 the application once again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you are happy with the details you have entered, don\u2019t forget to submit your application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You won\u2019t be able to make changes to your application once it has been submitted.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Which application type do I need?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are starting with us in September 2025 then you need to firstly select the 2026-27 session. However, there are also specific applications for students on an international exchange programme, or who will be studying on particular Medical School programmes, or for our couples\u2019 accommodation.
