There are quite a few events happening over the next week – here’s a rundown of what’s coming up…

As it’s nearly Guy Fawkes’ Night, a quick reminder: don’t forget that bonfires are not allowed on campus!  You also mustn’t bring fireworks onto campus – even if you intend to set them off somewhere else.  We suggest you go to an organised display instead – it’s safer (and way more spectacular).

Another popular local event is Tar Barrels at Ottery St Mary (5th November) – look out for society coach trips which run every year.  A word of warning, though – it’s definitely not recommended if you don’t enjoy fire.  Or crowds.  Or fires in crowds…

If you want to get your fireworks fix closer to home, why not come along to the annual Diwali celebration on 3rd November?  We’ll be celebrating the Festival of Lights with market stalls, dance and drumming performances, activities, henna tattoos, and foods from across India; ending in a procession to an on-campus fireworks display – it’s a great event and well worth checking out.

If all this is inspiring you with ideas for events you’d like to see in your residence*, why not talk to your Hall Committee about your thoughts?  There are even a few positions still open on the Committees, so you could get involved yourself – it’s a great experience that teaches you loads of new skills.  If you’re interested, you can find out more at the Guild A&V Hub in Devonshire House.

Have fun!
