For the next few weeks, I’ll be blogging along with the step-by-step Getting It Right Housing Campaign, helping you to plan the right move for your accommodation next year.  This week’s theme is Don’t Rush

You’re probably already starting to think about accommodation for next September.  The thing is, that’s ten months away.  Most non-students would think signing up for a legally-binding accommodation contract ten months in advance was pretty daft – and actually, it’s not a great idea for students to do it, either.

That’s because a lot can happen in ten months.  (Or nine.  Or eight.  You get where I’m going with this…) Friendship groups can change completely; your financial circumstances may be turned upside-down; someone in your group could find they aren’t able to continue with their studies next year… but once you’ve signed a tenancy, it may be impossible to get out of it.

The good news is that we’ll be providing lots of hints and tips over the next couple of months to help you make the best decisions.  For now, though, just wait a while.  It’s way too soon to sign your life away!

And finally…

Also this week, some news from the Accommodation Office.  Since Accommodation Cathy left us (sniff) a few weeks ago, the search has been on for a new staff member.  We’re very excited to announce that, from December, we’ll be joined by (drum roll, please)… Accommodation Catherine.  She’ll be blogging for you very soon!
