…Ah haa, there is nothing we can do! Well actually there is because this week we would like to remind you that the Univeristy of Exeter is committed to providing quality student accommodation. Therefore we are signed up members of the Student Accommodation Code which has been developed by Universities UK and GuildHE to protect your right to safe, good quality accommodation. It is there to make sure that you get the best out of your time living within university residences. It outlines everything you can expect from your accommodation as well as your responsibilities as a tenant. The Code protects your rights to:
- A healthy, safe environment
- Timely repairs and maintenance
- A clean, pleasant living environment
- A formal, contractual relationship with your landlord
- Access to health and wellbeing services
- A living environment free from anti-social behaviour
If you have any questions about the Student Accommodation Code please contact the Accommodation Office or your Residence Manager who will be happy to answer any queries that you may have.
This month has certainly been an eventful one at the University. I keep getting emails pinging at me bursting with information about fun events which are taking place across the campus’. Between 24 February and 9 March 2014 we are taking part in Fairtrade Fortnight. This years’ Fairtrade Fortnight will be focussing on the launch of a unique campaign that aims to transform the banana industry to ensure the most vulnerable get a fair deal.
I’m rather looking forward to seeing people dressed as bananas in both the Forum and Devonshire House whilst selling fresh, fairtrade bananas and also raffle tickets for your chance to win a special fairtrade hamper with proceeds going to Hospiscare. I wonder how many times these bananas will get asked if they’re actually called Eric (for those of you who remember Bananaman you will understand the reference…”This is 29 Acacier Road and this is Eric – the schoolboy who leads an exciting double life. For when Eric eats a banana, an amazing transformation occurs! Eric…is…BANANAMAN, ever alert for the call to action!”) Well that was a nice little blast from the past. Now back to the subject in hand…
Market Place Shops at Cornwall House, The Forum, Birks Grange and St. David’s plus The Guild Shop will be offering 10% off of all fairtrade products. The Ram will also be offering 10% discounts of all fairtrade tea and coffee. La Touche at The Business School will be offering banana cake and coffee for £2.95 (offer available between 08.00 – 11.00 and 14.30 – 17.00). I will be able to provide more information about what our residences are doing in next week’s blog – so keep your eyes peeled (like a banana!)
