Wowee! It’s here! You’re here! No need to count down any longer because it has finally arrived! You are now at the beginning of the very best few years of your life. So may I start off by saying a huge WELCOME to all of our new students who arrived with us over the weekend and to those of you still arriving. We really hope you enjoy your time in our accommodation.
Don’t forget that if you have any queries over the next few weeks about your accommodation (no matter how big or small), then do come and see us at one of our drop-in sessions. Members of the Accommodation Office are available Monday-Friday between 9:00am-5:00pm in The Forum. All you need to do is visit the Student Information Desk and ask to see a member of the Accommodation Office and we will be happy to help.
Now after all of the fantastic Freshers’ events which have taken place this week and are still continuing, I’m sure you will all be glad for Sunday to be a good old ‘day of rest’. If so, then why not consider the Big Lunch which is taking place on Sunday 21 September? You can tuck in to a delightful two course meal including roast beef or a vegetarian option of Homity pie. This will be served to students in their catered halls of residence from 11.15am until 1pm, or self catered students can tuck in to the same menu for just £6 in the Terrace Restaurant in Devonshire House.
You will need to buy your ticket by Thursday 18 September at 2pm. Tickets are available online at www.exeter.ac.uk/chilloutonsunday or pay by cash from the Terrace Restaurant or the diner in Cornwall House from Monday 15th to Thursday 18th September between 12 and 2pm.
Not only do we have the nice chill out lunch, we also want you to chill out with your accommodation worries for next year. Can you believe it? You’ve only just arrived with us and already some of you are asking about your second year accommodation and what to do. Well, the accommodation office are taking great delight telling you not to panic, whilst using our well rehearsed phrase of ‘DON’T RUSH’ and in this instance, we absolutely mean it.
This first term is for you to settle in, make new friends, get to know the area and decide what you want for your second year. Do not go rushing into the city centre and listening to tales of “all accommodation is going to run out unless you book with us now” because quite frankly, this is not the case at all. We would not want you to be in the situation where you have paid over the odds for accommodation and have made the decision to live with people, you might not have wanted to on a whim. So sit back, relax and enjoy this first term before even considering what to do for next year.
The Accommodation Office work very closely with the Students’ Guild who bring you a housing fair in January (normally mid-January). At this event you will have the opportunity to meet with landlords and see what is available within the private sector. We will also let you know in mid-January whether university accommodation is to be offered to our returning students.
