With many of you finishing your exams already, we are receiving a number of enquiries about moving out of your accommodation and terminating your contracts early. Please read below for information about moving out and moving on:
Departing before the contract end date
If you plan to vacate your accommodation prior to the contract end date, please ensure that you have read our useful blogpost from last year*, which provides lots of information.

Moving out
Prior to departure please ensure that you have read our Moving Out pages for information about what to do upon vacating your room. Please also ensure that all keys are returned to your residence reception and not handing to a friend or left within your room. See the residence receptions pages for their open times.
Moving On Project
As we approach the end of term, you will probably realise that you have accumulated many things that you will not need, and will not be able to take with you when you leave University accommodation. Each year the Moving on Project aims to collect reuse or recycle items that are donated by students leaving University accommodation. All the items collected are donated to the British Heart Foundation. This helps to reduce the University’s environmental impact by diverting your unwanted items from landfill to be reused.
You are very welcome to donate; books and stationery, clothes and shoes (In good condition & clean, shoes in pairs), crockery, cutlery, glassware and other kitchen equipment (wrap sharp knives), DVDs and CDs, electrical items. We do not need; pillows, duvets, blankets, cushions or food items
There are 5 large donation banks at Lafrowda and 2 at Birks Grange Village. There are donation boxes at Lopes, Holland, Birks Grange Central and Ross House Reception, also at St David’s and James Owen Court laundries.
Students that are living off campus and have no access to transport can contact streetwise@ex.ac.uk . They will be able to help transport donations to campus collection points, or direct to charity shops. They can also collect usable food items, which are in-date and unopened.
Last year the University of Exeter donated over 24 tonnes of items to the British Heart Foundation. This had an estimated worth of £42,000. By diverting from landfill, 244,000kg of CO2 was saved, which is equivalent to the average car being driven for 395 days non-stop.
