Exams are now over which means that many of you are enjoying some time off, on campus in the sunshine or perhaps you’re thinking of moving out of your accommodation prior to the contract end date. Please see some useful information and reminders below:

Moving Out
Please check your University of Exeter email address as you will have received a newsletter from your Residence Reception with information about moving out of your accommodation. The email will redirect you to the Moving Out Guide which is available on our website. We strongly recommend that you read this guide to ensure you have a smooth departure.

If you are going to be vacating your accommodation earlier than the contract end date please note that you are still able to use your accommodation at any time until 10:00am of your contract end date if you wish to do so; if not we recommend you follow the steps below:

  1. Leave your accommodation clean and tidy and book a Room Inspection with your Residence Reception.
  2. Report any faults to your room e.g. block sink or lights not working.
  3. Remove your belongings – do not leave anything behind.
  4. Storage for the summer – this is not available on campus and we recommend you look to local storage companies if you require storing any of your belongings over the summer vacation.
  5. Keys & Fobs – these must be returned by no later than 10:00am on your accommodation contract end date.

More detailed information about the above points is available within the email newsletter which has been sent.

Barbeques on campus

Please remember that BBQ’s, including disposable BBQ’s are not allowed on campus unless you have completed an ‘Outdoor Event Request’ form and sought approval. Alternatively, why not the sunshine as an opportunity to have a beach BBQ instead. Approved beaches include: Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth. Disposable BBQs are allowed on these beaches but must be removed when finished and disposed of carefully. Please see the East Devon District Council website for further information.

Help keep your campus tidy
The sun has made more of an appearance over recent weeks and many of you have enjoyed sitting outside in our beautiful grounds. The University of Exeter Grounds Team work incredibly hard to keep our campus looking neat and tidy for you to enjoy. With this in mind, may we please remind you to dispose of your rubbish in the many litter and recycling bins available across campus.

Keep your laptops safe
It has been brought to our attention that there have been several thefts of student laptops across the Halls of Residence this academic term. Especially now with the warmer weather, please remember that when you are not in your bedroom to make sure your bedroom windows and doors are closed and locked. With regards to the communal areas, if you are the last to leave these rooms at any time, please make sure the external windows and/or patio doors are locked.

Leaving windows and/or doors is a security risk, which could lead to a higher risk of theft or damage to residents’ property. Any insurance cover to your property may not be valid if it is found that doors/windows were left open purposefully.

For those of you who are vacating your accommodation over the next week, may we wish you a safe onward journey. Why not keep up to date on what’s happening over the summer on our Facebook page. Please note you can still contact us throughout the summer vacation.
