This week we have received a number of enquiries from both undergraduate and postgraduate students wondering whether they are guaranteed one of their top preferences and if they do not get their top preference, why not? We are looking into these questions also updating you on when you are able to book your arrival slot:
Am I guaranteed one of my top preferences?
Within our Accommodation Guarantee we are able offer a bed space within our residences, however, we are unable to guarantee that an offer will be one of your top preferences or an on-campus room. If you have received an offer that is not one of your preferences then this is likely to be because we have a number of residences where the volume of applications exceeds the number of rooms available. Your application will have been considered for your top preferences, however, if the rooms have already been allocated to other students we will then send you an offer for the next available residence/room type. If you wish to discuss the offer made to you, please contact us on 0300 555 0444 or by emailing sid@exeter.ac.uk.
If I don’t get my top preference, who will I be living with?
If you have not been given or do not get sent an offer for one of your top preferences then please do rest assured that we will have spent the time to match you with other students who share the same interests and preferences as you. For example if you have advised us that you are interested in music, drama and reading then the likelihood is that you have been placed in a flat with other students who have mentioned some of these interests also. To find out more about how we allocate rooms, please see our Room Allocation Procedure.
When will I hear about my offer?
Students who have recently had results and have an unconditional firm offer for the University of Exeter, you will not receive an accommodation offer immediately because it takes time to come through on our systems. If you have received one within the last week then it is likely that you will receive an accommodation offer by the beginning of August. If you have not received an offer or heard from the Accommodation Office by Friday 5 August then please contact us.
Further information about when you will hear can be found on our ‘When to apply‘ pages within the drop down list.
Arriving at the University of Exeter
As mentioned in last week’s blog post, we have recently updated our Arrivals and Freshers’ Week page on our website to give you information about arriving with us. For those students who have accepted an offer of accommodation and want to book their arrival slot, you will be sent an email about this during the first week of August. If students need to arrive at the University of Exeter earlier than the Arrivals Weekend of 9-11 September 2016 then priority is given to the following:
- Current INTO Students (progressing on to a degree course).
- Residence Life Team members.
- Students studying MSc Financial Analysis and Fund Management.
- Students studying the One Planet MBA.
- Others with extenuating circumstances of which we have been made aware.
To find out more about this please visit our website under the heading ‘Early arrivals’.
