University accommodation for returning students
The demand for accommodation for students covered by our guarantee, means that we are unable to offer university accommodation to returning students for the 2017/18 academic year.
Accommodation in the city
On Tuesday the Students’ Guild held an Accommodation Fair which a number of students, agents, landlords and private providers attended. This also marked the day that over 90 Studentpad adverts went live from purpose-built halls of residence to shared houses/flats within the city. This also includes properties which have been Afs/Unipol accreditated. Further information and advice on where to look can be found on our private housing webpages.
You are able to also get advice and support from the Guild Advice Unit, including the contract-checking service, and you can find out about the huge array of options, property types, and locations available to you.
Returning students with a supported application
We endeavour to make reasonable adjustments to support individuals who, due to a disability, a long-term medical condition or sensory or physical impairment require adapted accommodation or a particular location in line with the Equality Act 2010. Residence Life Team
The applications to become a 2017/18 Residence Life Mentor are now open and applications need to be returned by no later than Sunday 27 November 2016. 16 Last year, two of our Residence Life Mentors wrote a guest blog explaining why they became a mentor and what they need to do. It is a very inspiring read for any of you who might be interested in applying – don’t forget it also looks great on your CV.
Moving On Project
Between May-September 2016 many of our students took part in the ‘Moving On’ project and donated their unused items to the British Heart Foundation once they vacated their university accommodation. This year was extremely successful with £44,268 generated for the charity. This equated to 3062 bags. The most number of bags were 1154 donated at Lafrowda and generating £16,156 for the charity.
There are still donation points available Birks Grange Central Block, Holland Hall, Lopes Hall, James Owen Court laundry, St David’s laundry and an external point at Birks Grange Ross House. Further information can be found on our website.
