As it is now December, a lot of you may be beginning to think about the vacation period. Please see below for information on moving out of University accommodation whether you’re in catered or self-catered, what to consider if you’re living in private accommodation and what events are available on campus over the next week:

Moving out over Christmas
Students living within university accommodation will be receiving a newsletter shortly providing them with information for the Christmas vacation. If you are living within catered accommodation, you will need to vacate your room by 10:00am on Saturday 10 December. If you are living within self-catered accommodation, you are able to remain in your room over the Christmas period, however, please let us know if you will be staying for health and safety reasons. All of the information you will need about moving out or staying is available on our website. Please see the Residence Reception page for information on their opening times over the vacation.

December events on Campus
There are many events taking place on campus throughout December starting with carols, Christingles, mince pies and mulled wine at the annual Christmas Lights Switch on in the Forum today (Thursday 1 December) starting at 4:00pm. It also includes a special performance from BBC2’s The Choir, our very own Semi-Toned. Tomorrow (Friday 2 December) sees the Student Traders Craft Fair take place in the Forum between 11:00am-3:00pm. A great place to purchase any last minute gifts.

Staying on campus over Christmas?
If you will be staying on campus on Christmas Day then why not join our traditional Christmas Day Lunch in Lopes Hall? Tickets are £17.50 per person and must be booked before 12 noon, 20 December 2016. Arrival from 12.30pm for lunch at 1:00pm? The price includes a drink on arrival, 2 course lunch, Christmas present and much more. Students, staff and all their families welcome. Tickets can be purchased through the Online Store.

Living in private accommodation?
If you are currently living in private accommodation? Are you aware that students sometimes get fines due to rubbish being left out over the Christmas period? Make sure you know when the last bin collection date is before you leave for the Christmas break. You are able to view the collection timetable for December and January via the Exeter Council website. Remember that the council will not empty your bin if the lid will not close or collect extra waste placed beside your bin. Any loose bags of rubbish left outside your premises over Christmas may incur a fine. We recommend keeping any additional bags stored within your property boundary, or even your house, if you do not arrange for a special collection.

If you wish to speak to a member of the Accommodation Office about the Christmas vacation, we are available in our drop-in sessions between 10:00am-4:00pm Monday to Friday until Friday 9 December. Outside of these times we can be contacted by telephone or email. See our contact pages for further information.
