This week we are looking at room availability for PGCE students joining us for 2017/18 and also the differences between self-catered or catered accommodation. Please note that our 2017/18 rents will be updated on our website during February 2017.

PGCE room availability
Students undertaking a PGCE course in 2017/18 do not fall within our Accommodation Guarantee and are therefore able to search for private accommodation within the city using the Studentpad search engine. Accommodation for PGCE students advertised on Studentpad includes short term rentals and lodgings with host families.

Our list of available accommodation for 2017/18 will go live from Monday 27 March 2017. This list is only accessed upon entering a password. To request this password, please contact us by emailing: sid@exeter.ac.uk confirming your student number. If you require any further assistance about accommodation for PGCE students please do not hesitate to contact us.

Catered Accommodation
Catered accommodation is available to our undergraduate students only. It is intended for students who would prefer their first year at university to be spent more on settling in, socialising and working with less time being spent on cooking, washing up or and doing a food shop. If this sounds like something you’re interested, then catered accommodation might be for you. Take a look at our catered accommodation webpages to see the different catered residences and rooms available.

The rent for our catered residences includes sixteen meals per week at set meal times within your residences dining hall, which is made up of breakfast and an evening meal (Monday to Friday) and a continental breakfast, brunch and an evening meal (weekends). Students are given access to a utility area and are provided with a mini fridge within their room in order to make lunches and snacks. Take a look at our ‘about catered halls‘ webpage to see the menus our students are currently enjoying and also an idea of the meal times. Our YouTube video provides an insight into our catered accommodation.

Self-Catered Accommodation
Self-catered accommodation is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. If you are someone who prefers to choose when you eat, what you eat and where you eat then self-catered accommodation is likely to suit you.

Self-catered accommodation gives students access to a communal kitchen area (unless you’re living within a studio). Many students prefer the option of a shared kitchen as they find it to be a social hotspot and a place where you can learn from each other and enhance your cooking skills.

See our YouTube video for an insight into our self-catered accommodation.

If you are still unsure about which type of residence you would prefer then visit our ‘how to choose‘ pages which might be able to help.

Please note that applications for both undergraduate and postgraduate students will open on Monday 10 April 2017.

Next week we will be looking at the different standards of room and the accommodation contract lengths available.
