Applications for accommodation opened on Monday 10 April and our blog this week is providing you with information on what you need in order to submit an application for accommodation:

The Accommodation Guarantee and Insurance Students
As we mentioned last week, full year undergraduate student applications are not dealt with on a first come, first serve basis for students applying within our guarantee (10 April – 31 July 2017). Postgraduate applications are dealt with on a first come, first served basis.

If the University of Exeter is your insurance or clearing choice or you have received a place through adjustment, you are able to apply for accommodation once your university offer is confirmed. This is likely to be after 31 July which is our guarantee deadline date. We will process applications after the deadline in the order that we receive them and we will offer you a place in University owned/managed/approved accommodation if rooms are still available. Please see the ‘Accommodation Guarantee’ for further information on this.

Activating an accommodation account
Before you can apply for accommodation, you need to activate an accommodation account. Please ensure you have your nine digit student ID number ready. This is likely to start with a ’66’ or ’67’. It is also known as a ‘University of Exeter Reference Number’ and will be found on your university offer letter.  Admissions have sent an email within the last two weeks and your student number is located underneath the University of Exeter logo. You will not be able to activate an accommodation account using your UCAS ID number.

How to videos
We have created two videos which provide a step by step process on ‘how to activate an accommodation account’ and ‘how to submit an application for accommodation’. We strongly recommend that these are viewed prior to creating your application for accommodation. Please see the links below:

How do you allocate rooms?
Please visit our ‘Room allocation procedure‘ webpages for information on how we allocate students to rooms/residences based on the information they provide within their application forms. It also details the additional preferences which are listed on the application form to help us match you to the most suitable flat.

Do I have to stay in University of Exeter accommodation?
Students are not required to stay in University accommodation at any point whilst they are studying with us. If you wish to look for private housing within the city then we recommend that you look at the following webpages for help and advice on where to look:

  • Student housing – offers advice on where to look
  • Living in the city – offers information on what support is available for students living within private housing
  • Studentpad – the University of Exeter student search engine for accommodation

How can we contact you?
If you need any support with your application or have any queries about accommodation then the Accommodation Office can be contacted between 9:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday* in the following ways:

* Please note that the Accommodation Office is closed on Good Friday (14 April) and Easter Monday (17 April) 2017.

Next week’s blog will look into your frequently asked questions and we will be troubleshooting any application queries.
