We have seen a number of students within our drop-in sessions over the last few weeks who have concerns about finding accommodation in the city centre for next year. Both the University and Students’ Guild are available to offer any support with your search and have a number of events taking place over the next couple of weeks. Take a look below and please know, you are not the only one.

The Accommodation Fair
Come along to theĀ Studentsā€™ Guild Accommodation FairĀ which takes placeĀ on Tuesday 21 NovemberĀ betweenĀ 11:00am-4:00pmĀ  in The Great Hall. Here, you will be able to meet accommodation specialists including local landlords and letting agents as well as members of the Accommodation Office and Students’ Guild.

What is being advertised
To coincide with the Accommodation Fair, the StudentPad list of advertisements for 2018/19 will go live from midnight on Tuesday 21 November. The Accommodation Office manage Studentpad which is a free, accommodation search portal and there will be over 120 adverts going live on this day and these will include:

  • Purpose-built private halls of residence
  • Shared houses and flats
  • Properties through private individual landlords
  • Rooms with a resident landlord/host family

Take at our website to learn about the Right to Rent checks which landlords and agents now need to adhere to. We have also provideed a useful Housing Terminology document for you to know the typical jargon used when viewing accommodation.

Support with contracts and tenancy agreements
You can get advice and support from the Guild Advice Unit, including their free contract-checking service, and you can find out about the huge array of options, property types, and locations available to you.

We provided a lot of information in last weeks blog post about deciding who to live with. Take a look at it here and remember that it is OK if you choose to live on your own. There are a number of purpose-built halls of residence listed on our website which have rooms available. There are also Flatmate finder events being run through the Guild.
