This week we are having a bit of a ‘foodie’ moment as we see what is in store for both Pancake Day and Chinese New Year which take place next week:

Pancake Day
This time last year to mark Shrove Tuesday or ‘Pancake Day’ as it’s more commonly known, we did a our Live Video on our Facebook page showing you how to make the perfect pancake. Go and take a look at the video to see Rob Doidge – Residences Head Chef and Helen Anderson from the Residence Life Team as they cook up a culinary treat. Pancakes will be available in our catered halls for dessert on Tuesday 13 February and in some of our Eat & Shop outlets. If you fancy making your own, the recipe used in the video is shown below:

Mixture
– 220g Plain Flour
– 2 eggs
– 275ml

Method
1. Sift the flour.
2. Break eggs into centre of flour and then whisk.
3. Add milk until the right consistency is achieved.
4. Put mixture into a jug.
5. Heat frying pan until hot.
6. Add a little oil to the pan.
7. Add pancake mix, moving the mixture around to cover the base of the pan.
8. Cook until golden brown (Approximately 10-15 seconds)
9. Turn or toss the pancake and cook other side of the pancake
10. Serve with your desired filling.

Chinese New Year – Catered Halls
Friday 16 February marks the ‘Chinese New Year’ and this year it’s the ‘Year of the Dog’. If you are living in catered halls then a special themed dinner service will be available at no extra cost. Click on the image to the right to see what the menu includes:

If you are a visitor or are living in one of our self catered residences you are more than welcome to purchase a meal at a catered hall throughout the term and join us at our Chinese New Year event.

Please purchase a guest voucher (valid on the day of purchase only) from the Dining Room, Manager’s office or Reception before the meal available at one of our catered halls (Holland Hall, Exeter Halls or Birks Grange Village). You will need to hand in the receipt at the servery.

Prices for the dinner are charged at £6.92 for self-catered students or £8.31 for visitors. See our website for further information.

Next week’s blog post will be providing further information about the Chinese New Year celebrations taking place on campus on Sunday 4 March.
