This week we are looking at the cost of living whilst studying at the University of Exeter, as well as how much your deposit is and when you will need to pay your Accommodation Fees:
Cost of Living at Exeter
Our International Student Support webpage provides a comprehensive breakdown of living costs whilst studying with us. They recommend that a single student studying at Exeter will need approximately £1,015 per month to meet basic living expenses such as accommodation costs, food, books and equipment and other necessities. Please note that this figure is given as a guide only and will depend a lot upon your personal lifestyle. Take a look at their website to find out more.
If you are receiving a Student Loan, it might be worth looking into how much you will receive prior to applying for accommodation as knowing your budget could impact your decision.
The information below is based on students living in University of Exeter residences and are likely to vary for students living within our nominated residences at: Point Exe, Printworks, Northernhay and Northfield. It is best to look at the terms and conditions of your offer once they are sent to you and to liaise with that specific company.
My deposit – what is this?
If you are made an offer of accommodation in University residences*, you are required to pay a deposit of £300.00 in order to secure your place in our residences. Once you receive an offer, you will have between 3-5 days to accept your offer AND pay your deposit, so please ensure that you have that money available in anticipation for receiving your offer. Our ‘When will I hear?‘ webpage will give an idea as to when you should expect to receive an offer off accommodation.
Your accommodation deposit will be split and credited equally against your accommodation charges in terms 2 and 3. This will reduce the outstanding amount for terms 2 and 3 by £150.00 per term and should be taken into account when making your termly payments. This means that you will not receive it back as one lump sum at the end of the year.
When are University Accommodation Fees due?
The cost and instalment amounts will be detailed in your accommodation offer and it is best to review this. Accommodation Fees are due at the beginning of the academic year in full, or in the following instalments:
- Term one – 8 October 2018
- Term two – 14 January 2019
- Term three – 6 May 2019
- Term four – 24 June 2019 (51 weeks only)
Please note that there are no discounts applied if you choose to pay in full. The information listed above is available on our ‘How to pay‘ webpage with information on the different payment methods that we are able to accept.
