Welcome to a new week and a new blog! We hope you have had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the sunshine wherever you may have been. We are going back to a ‘Q&A’ style blog post this week for a refresher on some frequently asked questions that have come up recently.

Deadlines! What, where, when?
There isn’t a ‘deadline’ for applying for accommodation. Although you are able to apply whenever you would like to, we do have our Accommodation Guarantee deadline of 31 July. This is for students who fall within our guarantee.

If you are applying from 1 August onwards then please see the advice offered on our website which will provide you with further information.

How do we know what bed size we will have?
One question that comes up frequently after offers are sent out is if you have been allocated to a single or double bed. You can find this information out on our self-catered or catered residence pages and by selecting the residence. Within the residence page, click on ‘room details’ to see the bed size for that residence.

We can confirm that both Rowe House and St German’s now have double beds in the rooms.

Just a reminder that details we are unable to confirm until you arrive are room numbers and which floor you have been allocated to.

When can we move in?
Arrivals weekend will take place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2019. If you offered a place in Lafrowda, Rowe House, St German’s or Birks Grange Village self-catered accommodation then arrivals will also take place on Friday 13 September 2019 and welcome activities will be available from this date. Full details of Freshers’ events for Arrivals Weekend will be available on the Student Guild website.

Arriving on campus
You will be able to book an arrival slot to bring a car on campus, outside your residence, to unload for 20 minutes. You will then be redirected to a car park on campus as you unload. Please remember that car parking is not available to resident students. The only exception is the drop-off times for Arrivals Weekend.

Students who have accepted an offer for one of our nominated residences: Point Exe, Northfield, Northernhay House, The Printworks and Clifford House are not required to complete the online induction or book an arrival time. You will be contacted by your specific residence directly in order to arrange your arrival.

Further information about our Arrivals Weekend and Freshers’ Week can be found on our website.

Supporting a good cause
Our current residents who have recently moved out of accommodation have done an incredible job supporting charities and good causes. Russell from our Residence Operations team confirmed there has been an increase in Food Bank donations; 21 shopping crates in total (pictured left).

Russell said “Besides hundreds of tins of tomatoes, baked beans, pasta and noodles, there was a jar of cockles and a green tea flavoured wafer!”

The University was featured in Devon Live. The British Heart Foundation Store Manager said, “This year has been our best year yet for good quality donations.”

Thank you very much to the Residence Operations team for sharing this news with us. It is a fantastic achievement and wonderful to support a worthwhile cause by turning your unwanted items into someone else’s treasure.

Wishing everyone a great week ahead!
