Welcome to the first blog of November! In last week’s blog we said we would be looking at the Paperwork aspects of finding your next home, but it turns out we are a little behind on our own admin (!) so we will be bringing this to you in a couple of weeks’ time. Instead we are going to run through the events being hosted by the Residence Life team during the remaining weeks of term so you can start filling up your social diaries.

Cookery School – Tuesday 12 November

If you need to brush up on your culinary skills or just want to add to your recipe repertoire then join our Cookery School event at Birks Grange Village? Vegetable Lasagne is the dish of the day, and you will be provided with all the ingredients and equipment you need. While dinner is cooking, you will also be shown how to make a delicious dessert – my stomach is already rumbling! Tickets are free of charge but you need to book your place via the Online Store.

Give it a go: String Pulling Art – Thursday 14 November

Why not give a this unique and fun craft a go at our free event which will be held in Mardon Library. Absolutely no prior experience is required, and everything you need will be provided (including snacks!) but things could get a little messy so don’t go in your finest clothes. Book your place via the Online Store.

Exeter City Football – Saturday 16 November

Sports fans can join us to watch Exeter City take on Cheltenham at their home ground, St James’ Park. A walking train will start from outside The Grove, Cornwall House and you ticket price includes entrance to the ground plus a pre-match pasty and pint! Purchase your ticket by 10 November via the Online Store.

Bath Christmas Market – Saturday 30 November

Get your Christmas shopping sorted early by joining us on a coach trip to Bath, where the award-winning Christmas market will be yours to explore. There are 150 chalets to browse this year, so you are sure to find something for everyone (not forgetting yourself!). Your ticket price covers the cost of the coach travel, but how you choose to spend the day once there is entirely up to you. Tickets are available via the Online Store but hurry – ticket sales for this popular trip will close on 22 November.

Give it a go: Christmas Decoration Making – Thursday 5 December

I wish I could join in on this one! Get yourself properly into the Christmas spirit (elf outfits/Christmas jumpers optional but encouraged) and create some sparkly decorations to make your room look festive. All equipment and materials will be provided; all you need to do is bring the Christmas magic. This event at Lopes Hall is free of charge but your place must be booked via the Online Store.

A couple of final things going on in the city:

  • Exeter’s Christmas lights will be switched on over “five nights of lights” between 13-17 November, with the main event on the High Street and Princesshay on Saturday 16 November. More details at Visit Exeter.
  • Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market takes place on Cathedral Green from Saturday 16 November until Thursday 19 December. The traditional wooden chalets are filled with crafts, gifts and foodie treats and the on-site bar offers a warm and welcoming break from the cold. Opening times vary so please see the Exeter Cathedral website for details.

Wow, with all these events to look forward to I’m sure the weeks are going to fly by. Tomorrow (Friday 8 November) we will have a special additional blog post. For those of you back from Reading Week and already missing a home cooked meal, we are showing you how you can pass this responsibility over to us. Have a great week!
