This week we have received a number of enquiries from our Home/EU postgraduate students enquiring about accommodation for September 2015. We have also had a number of students wishing to sublet their contracts or find someone to take their contract over. This week, we are answering your questions and letting you know what you need to do.
Self-catered departures
This Saturday (4 July), we wave goodbye to those students currently staying within our 42 week self-catered residences. Please ensure that you all book a room inspection prior to your departure and read the moving out guide for information on how to leave your room. Keys must be returned to your residence reception by no later than 10:00am on your departure date.
Contract takeovers and subletting
Once a student accepts their accommodation contract, they are given a five day cooling off period in which to change their mind. After this five days, students are then entered in to a legally binding contract with the University and we are unable to release them from their accommodation contract, unless another registered student, not currently in University accommodation can be found to take over the contract. Until this happens, students will remain liable for the fees for their room for the full period of the contract even if they decide not to reside in the accommodation. (This is explained in clause 4.3 of the accommodation agreement and further details are also available in section 9 of the Residential Regulations).
As per the terms and conditions of the contract, students are not allowed to sublet their rooms. All contract takeovers must go through the Accommodation Office for their approval. If we discover that a sublet is taking place then this is classed as a breach of contract and penalities may be incurred. Please contact the Accommodation Office if you need further information.
Home/EU new postgraduates
We are still receiving accommodation applications from International Postgraduates who fall within our guarantee and are therefore not able to confirm the availablity of rooms for Home/EU postgraduates until after 31 July.
We recommend that these students look for accommodation within the private sector via www.exeterstudentpad.co.uk which gives details of properties available including larger providers within the city who have a range of purpose built accommodation for students.
Students who are currently on the waiting list will be kept in contact via email, however, please note that a decision might not be made until August.
