The leaves are no longer green and have that yellow and orange tinge which must mean it’s autumn and also means that the nights will soon get shorter and the dark skies will be around a little bit longer each day. Please see below for some useful information about this:
End of British Summer time
On Sunday (25 October) the clocks go back an hour and we all get an extra hour to catch up on work/sleep. So remember before you head to bed on Saturday night to change your clocks.
Darker nights
With the clocks going back, it will mean that it will be getting dark much earlier than normal and some of you may be growing concerned about walking around the campus alone. Are you aware of the Estate Patrol ‘Guardian Angel Service’ which is a service available to any member of the University? If you are walking alone after dark from any location on campus to any of the car parks or residences, the Estate Patrol team will monitor your route via CCTV to ensure you arrive safely. If you wish to use this service, telephone Estate Patrol on 3999 when you are getting ready to leave your building to arrange with the duty supervisor to monitor CCTV cameras on the route that will be taken. Don’t forget that your Residence Life Team and the Night Patrol are on hand if you are feeling vulnerable or require any support or need assistance throughout the night.

Saturday 31 October is Halloween and our catered residences will have a themed menu available. If you are living in self-catered accommodation then you are still able to enjoy a meal within our catered halls by paying £6.75 and purchasing a guest voucher (valid on the day of purchase only) from one of our Catered Halls residence reception before the meal available. You will need to hand in the receipt at the servery.
