It’s June! Exams are coming to an end and many of you will be moving out of your accommodation or private house ready to spend the summer elsewhere. The blog this week is providing you with all the information you need about moving out. We also have open days taking place this weekend, so find out what is happening and what you can do to ensure these run smoothly.
Open Days
On Friday 2 June and Saturday 3 June we will have Open Days taking place between 9:30am-4:30pm at the Streatham Campus and 9:30am-3:30pm at the St Lukes Campus. Viewings will be taking place at the following residences which are likely to be busy and will be led by our Student Ambassadors:
- Rowancroft and Rowancroft Mews
- Lafrowda and Rowe House
- Exeter Halls
- The Printworks
- Point Exe
Barbecues
With the weather getting warmer, it is likely that people will want to get BBQ’s out. Please remember that BBQ’s, including disposable BBQ’s are not allowed on campus unless you have completed an ‘Outdoor Event Request’ form and sought approval. Why not take a trip to the beach instead for a BBQ? Approved beaches include: Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth. Disposable BBQs are allowed on these beaches but must be removed when finished and disposed of carefully. Please see the East Devon District Council website for further information.
Moving out of your accommodation
To coincide with the Open Days we will have traffic marshalls situated at Lafrowda and Rowe House in order to monitor the amount of cars coming in and out. If you decide to move out of your accommodation this weekend then between 8:30am-5:00pm you will be given a parking permit lasting 20 minutes in order to move out your belongings.
Information about moving out can be found on our self-catered and catered webpages and it will provide information on how to leave your room or communal area. Don’t forget, you can donate items to the British Heart Foundation. Find out what you can donate by viewing the Moving On flyer.
Moving out of your private house
When you move out of your private house please remember to keep the noise levels down and be mindful of your neighbours. You are able to donate any unwanted items to the British Heart Foundation also by visiting a collection point on campus. Find out what you can donate and where this can be done by viewing the Moving On flyer.
If you have any waste which needs to be collected then our ‘Students on the Move‘ is a waste collection scheme subsidised by the University. It operates throughout June and July each year, allowing University students living in private accommodation to have non-recyclable waste collected – in addition to their normal bi-weekly collection. This scheme has helped to reduce fly tipping and has taken the stress out of the busy ‘moving out’ period.
The main University and Guild Information Points (at the Streatham and St Lukes Campuses) are issued with green ‘SOTM’ envelopes containing collection stickers for marking extra waste. This scheme only collects extra ‘grey’ waste. We do not collect glass or other recyclable items.

Disruption to WiFi – an apology
We understand that on Sunday 28 May, a number of university residences had a disrupted WiFi service on Sunday 28 May. StudentCom network engineers worked hard to resume the service as quickly as possible and this was fully restored by 8:00pm on Sunday. We know this isn’t an ideal situation and the StudentCom have apologised for this disruption.
If you do notice any errors to the service, please contact StudentCom directly using the information below. They are available 24/7:
