Essential repairs and improvement works are taking place on a number of blocks at Birks Grange Village, Duryard, and Lafrowda at our Streatham Campus during the 2018/19 academic year.

Where can I find out which blocks are affected?
Take a look at our essential works maps online for Birks Grange Village, Duryard, and Lafrowda to see where works will be taking place and whether you have been allocated an affected block.

I’ve been allocated an affected block, what is going to be happening?
There are two main categories of works planned:

Works are scheduled between the hours of 09:00 – 18:00 Monday-Friday.

What should I expect if I live in a block affected by the exterior works?
Updates to the exterior of the affected blocks will be carried out during term one and term two. If not already in place when you arrive, scaffolding will be erected around some of the blocks in Birks Grange Village,Duryard and Lafrowda,.

Watch our video below from 00:38 – 01:24 to hear more from one of our students about her experience of living in a block where the exterior works were taking place:

What should I expect if I live in a block affected by the shower room works?

In blocks where the shower room works will be taking place you will be required to pack up your belongings into crates (which will be provided) and move to an alternative flat for a period of one week whilst the works take place. You will then move back into your original flat at the end of the week. Don’t worry, you will not be moving by yourself – you will move with your  flatmates to the alternative flat and

both University staff and a professional removal team will be on hand to move your crates.

In the video above you can watch from 01:23 – 02:09 to hear from one of our students about their experience of moving for the shower room works.

You can also watch our new video to learn more about your move, what information you’ll receive as well as some useful packing tips:

I’ve heard there is a rent reduction – how does this work?
We will make every effort to reduce the disruption caused by these works. If you live in an affected block you will receive a rent reduction to acknowledge the fact that these works will inevitably have an impact on students living in these residences in 2018/19. There are two categories of rent reduction available for students living in the affected blocks (subject to works taking place). For more information on which rent reductions are available, please visit the Exterior works and Shower works webpages.

Please note, if you live in a block in close proximity, you will not be eligible for a rent reduction.

Where can I find out more information?
Detailed information, including work schedules, can be found on the Exterior works and Shower room works webpages.

When you arrive at the University in September you will receive more information from the team about the works happening in your block – please make sure you read these carefully. We also publish weekly work schedules – ‘lookaheads’ –  on the exterior and shower room works webpages, in affected blocks, and in accommodation receptions. These schedules will provide more details about the type of work happening in your area, so you can plan if you’d like to study elsewhere during the day.

We are seeking to provide you with as much detail as we are able to at this moment, however this could be changed by events outside the University’s control. For the avoidance of any doubt, the refund associated with the disruption will only be payable if the works proceed.
