It’s the last day of February and spring has certainly felt in the air this week. As the weather improves you may be feeling more tempted to get out from under your duvet so our blog this week takes a look at a few of the things which you can get involved with on campus and further afield.
Offer Holder Visit Days
This Saturday we are holding our third of six Offer Holder Visit Days on Streatham Campus. Did you attend a Visit Day at Exeter as a prospective student? It probably feels a distant memory now! The Accommodation team will be on hand in the Forum to answer visitors’ questions throughout the day, and Student Ambassadors will be leading tours to rooms in our Lafrowda and Holland Hall residences. If you are living in a room or flat which is being shown then don’t forget to set your alarm so you are up and dressed in good time – tours start at 10am but we will be coming around to check all rooms from 9:15am! The Farmer’s Market will be on the Forum Piazza too so why not treat yourself to a freshly prepared lunch?
Residence Life Events
Our Residence Life team have a series of trips planned throughout March, so why not join one and explore the South West before your Easter break? You could take a steam train ride from Paignton to Dartmouth on Saturday 9 March, a visit to world-famous Stonehenge and historic Salisbury on Wednesday 13 March, or transport yourself to tropical climes at the Eden Project on Saturday 16 March. Tickets can be booked via the online store.
While on the subject on Residence Life, don’t forget the team are here to support you throughout your time in our accommodation. Whatever is on your mind, you can speak confidentially to the Mentor assigned to your residence or to one of the Team Leaders who are available every evening during term-time between 6-8pm. Find out more on our webpage.
Pancakes
It’s Shrove Tuesday (or Pancake Day as it is more commonly known) on Tuesday 5 March so this is your advance notice to get your ingredients ready. A couple of years ago Helen from the Residence Life Team joined Residences Head Chef Rob Doidge to demonstrate how to make the perfect pancake – you can check out their Facebook Live video and follow along. The basic pancake recipe as used in the video is:
Mixture:
220g plain flour
2 eggs
275ml milk
Cooking oil for the pan.
Method:
- Sift the flour.
- Break eggs into centre of flour and then whisk.
- Add milk until the right consistency is achieved.
- Put mixture into a jug.
- Heat frying pan until hot.
- Add a little oil to the pan. Allow to spread around the pan then tip any excess into a separate bowl.
- Gradually add pancake mix, moving the mixture around to cover the base of the pan.
- Cook until golden brown (approximately 10-15 seconds).
- Turn or toss the pancake and cook other side of the pancake.
- Serve with your desired filling.
Whether you prefer a sweet or savoury filling, get creative and have some fun! Why not get your friends or flatmates to join in and have a “flipping” good time? (sorry!).
Easter Vacation
It’s only four weeks until the end of term so you might be starting to think about your plans for the Easter Vacation. For those of you in our residences, look out for a newsletter in your University of Exeter email account over the next couple of weeks which will give you lots of information about moving out over the Easter break, or for those of you in self-catered accommodation and planning to stay, then what will be open on campus.
