We hope everyone has had a lovely weekend and a good week so far! This week features another guest blog by Jasmine from our Internal Communications Team. Today, Jasmine is sharing exciting news and updates with you on our new student residential developments on campus.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best experience for our students, we are currently developing three new student residences, East Park, Moberly and Spreytonway, with our long-term student accommodation partner University Partnerships Programme (UPP).
The Spreytonway and East Park sites are in close proximity to some of our Lafrowda and St German’s residences, and we want to let you know what this means for students living in those areas.
What exactly is being built and where?
Spreytonway is located at the eastern end of Lafrowda adjacent to Merrivale (Lafrowda Block T) and Chagford (St German’s) and work is underway to create 131 new bedrooms by September 2020 for postgraduate students.
East Park is across the valley from Lafrowda and Lopes Hall – directly below Garden Hill House – and works are underway here to create 1,182 new bedrooms, for undergraduate students, which is set to become operational over two phases in September 2020 and September 2021.
You can find out more about the developments and view the latest progress photos on the website. You can also view our Lafrowda map to see the specific location of Spreytonway in relation to existing residences and our East Park map which shows the position of the East Park development in proximity to Lafrowda, Lopes Hall and Garden Hill House.
When do the works take place and how will I be kept informed?
Works are already underway and currently scheduled to take place throughout 2019/20 from 8:00am-6:00pm Monday to Friday and 8:00am-1:00pm on Saturdays. For students living in close proximity to Spreytonway and Garden Hill House, we will send out regular updates which outline the scheduled works activities for the upcoming week. This enables you to plan your week, taking into account any particular disruption, should you wish to choose an alternative study space during the working hours of the project (this can be done using the iExeter app).
All of the developments are carefully managed – we work closely with the appointed construction companies and points of contact will be available to handle any concerns you may have whilst the works are taking place.
Will I receive a rent reduction if I live in close proximity to the works?
Every effort will be made to reduce the disruption caused by any of these works and those living in close proximity will not be eligible for a rent reduction. Rent reductions are only provided to those students who have works taking place to the exterior of the block they live in and those who need to move out of their flats to allow shower room works to be completed. Both of these works are associated with our essential repairs and improvements works which you can read more about on the website.
Have any further questions?
If you have any questions about the work taking place and your accommodation application, please contact the Accommodation Office for further information.
