Grahame Aldous (Law, 1978) has published Prize Money in Nelson’s Navy.
Bringing the experience of a practising lawyer and drawing on previously untapped contemporary Georgian law reports, this book provides a fresh legal perspective on British prize law from the seventeenth to the twentieth century. Focusing on how prize law disputes were handled in the era of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, the book takes the reader into the socially connected worlds of lawyers, courts and naval officers.

Dr Mark Hutchinson (PhD in History, 2024) has recently published Glastonbury Abbey. The People and the Place, 1100 to 1539.
This book’s recurring theme is that, in one sense, Glastonbury was not remarkable at all; yet in another, both the people and the place were extraordinary. It argues that, through 400 years of national turbulence, Glastonbury Abbey – hidden away in Somerset – kept calm and carried on successfully managing its estates, fulfilling its spiritual duties, and becoming the wealthiest monastery in England.
