Thirteen alumni and two honorary graduates of the University of Exeter received awards in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours on Friday 14 June. The honours system marks the extraordinary contributions and service of people across the UK and we’re very proud of all the members of our community who have been recognised in this way.

    • Awarded an OBE for services to Disabled People.
  • Professor Ian Hall (MMath Mathematics, 1999, and PhD in Applied Mathematics, 2003)
    • Awarded an OBE for services to Public Health, to Epidemiology and to Adult Social Care, particularly during Covid-19.
  • David-Andre Happy (MA European Economic Studies, 1986)
    • Awarded an MBE for services to Telecommunications and to Technology.
  • Armando Iannucci (Hon DLitt, 2012)
    • Awarded a CBE for services to Film and Television.
  • Moira Marder (Hon LLD, 2019)
    • Awarded an OBE for services to Education.
  • Jonathan Nancekivell-Smith (Mathematics, Statistics & Operational Research, 1996)
    • Awarded a CBE for Public Service.
  • Timothy Oliver (Sociology & Law, 1983)
    • Awarded an OBE for services to Local Government.
  • Professor Judith Petts (Geography, 1975)
    • Made a Dame for services to Higher Education and to Sustainability.
  • Charlotte Pike (Combined Honours Spanish & French, 2007)
    • Awarded an MBE for services to Food Writing and to Food Education.
  • Dr Adam Read (Geography, 1995)
    • Awarded an MBE for services to Waste and Resources Management.
  • David Rowe (Economics, 1981)
    • Awarded an OBE for services to the Armed Forces Community.
  • Professor Diane Saunders (Biological Sciences, 2005 )
    • Awarded an OBE for services to Plant Science, Agriculture and to Women in STEM.
  • Iain Stewart (Politics, 1993)
    • Awarded a CBE for Political and Public Service.
  • Michael Williams (Biological Sciences (Zoology), 1990)
    • Awarded an MBE for services to Conservation and to Natural Flood Management.
