Like the UK, these Northern European countries&#8217; healthcare face the familiar challenges of providing mental health care to ever-increasing numbers of people with common mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety, with ever tighter budgets.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time ever the meeting, which has previously always been UK-based, was hosted by colleagues from Vrije Universiteit. For this occasion, primary care mental health researchers journeyed from York, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Southampton and Exeter to join researchers from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Norway, Ireland, Poland and France. In total 140 people registered to attend making it one of the largest (possibly the largest) meeting to date.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to a stimulating academic meeting, this year provided the opportunity to meet with old friends (and some new) in the Spring sunshine to sample the vibrant atmosphere of exciting Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>Next year&#8217;s meeting has been arranged by Professor Carolyn Chew Graham from the Department of Primary Care, Keele University, and is on the subject of medical ethics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/medicine.exeter.ac.uk\/about\/profiles\/index.php?web_id=Chris_Dickens\">Chris Dickens<br \/>\n<\/a>Mental Health Lead for APEx<br \/>\nUniversity of Exeter Medical School<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amsterdam meeting 2016 Over recent years the primary care mental health research conference has not only attracted growing numbers of UK-based primary care researchers, \u00a0but has also attracted researchers from the Netherlands and other European countries.
