We are proud to share that our grounds have been featured in the 2026 issue of Exeter, the magazine for alumni and supporters.
The article, “Our Stunning Grounds”, celebrates the beauty, heritage and environmental importance of our campuses, and shines a spotlight on the work of the Grounds team who care for them all year round.
Recognised Nationally for Excellence
The feature highlights the University’s reputation as one of the most beautiful and botanically interesting campuses in the UK, with recognition from national publications and industry awards. It also acknowledges the recent Double Gold Award at the 2025 Britain in Bloom South West Awards, a well‑deserved honour reflecting the team’s expertise, dedication and environmental responsibility.
Across more than 150 hectares of University land, our grounds include gardens, wildflower meadows, ponds and watercourses, woodland and historic landscapes — all maintained carefully to support biodiversity while enhancing the campus experience.
Spotlight on Our Trees and Arboricultural Work
A key focus of the article is the University’s extensive tree collection, with around 10,000 trees across campus. The piece features insights from Alex Adams, Arboricultural Manager, who leads the care and development of this remarkable living collection.
Connecting Alumni to the Campus
The alumni magazine also covers recent guided tree and garden tours led by the Grounds team, which gave alumni the opportunity to rediscover the Streatham Campus landscape and learn more about its history, including the 19th‑century planting of Reed Hall gardens.
A Proud Moment for the Grounds Team
Being featured in the alumni magazine is a proud moment for everyone involved in caring for the University’s grounds. It recognises not only the visual impact of the campus, but also the skill, care and commitment required to maintain these spaces throughout the year.
We would like to thank the alumni team for showcasing this work, and our Grounds colleagues for their continued dedication to making our campuses such special places to study, work and visit.
