£49,700 raised for local charity Hospiscare

The University of Exeter‘s Grounds team have again teamed up with the local charity Hospiscare to recycle Christmas trees, raising funds to support terminally ill patients and their families.

In exchange for a donation to Hospiscare, volunteers collected trees from households across Exeter and East Devon. The trees were taken to the University’s Streatham Campus and were chipped by the Grounds team. The chippings will be sustainably used as mulch for the shrub beds on campus grounds.

2,165 Christmas trees were collected by 101 volunteers and chipped by the Grounds team – raising a record breaking £49,700 (and counting) for Hospiscare! This could fund 1,029 nurse home visits, helping Hospiscare provide compassionate end of life care and support to patients and their families when they need it most.

Over the past seven years of running Hospiscare’s Christmas Tree Recycling campaign, thanks to the fantastic support of all the volunteers involved, over £165,000 has been raised for Hospiscare; a truly remarkable achievement that has made a lasting difference to so many local people.

Thank you everyone for your hard work, time and generosity.
