Survey Highlights Winter 2021-22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The results of the winter bird surveys carried out by an independent consultant on our campuses during two visits between November 2021 and January 2022 have been received and we wanted to share the highlights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Streatham Campus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A total of 1,126 birds (34 species) were recorded during the visits, with the top five species recorded as:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Wood Pigeon<\/li>\n<li>Blackbird<\/li>\n<li>Robin<\/li>\n<li>Carrion Crow<\/li>\n<li>Great Tit<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2525\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2525\" style=\"width: 318px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/buddingnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/303\/2022\/04\/great-tit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2525 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/buddingnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/303\/2022\/04\/great-tit.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"159\" recorded:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Greenfinch (red listed)<\/li>\n<li>Herring Gull (red listed)<\/li>\n<li>House Sparrow (red listed)<\/li>\n<li>Mistle Thrush (red listed)<\/li>\n<li>Bullfinch (amber listed)<\/li>\n<li>Dunnock (amber listed)<\/li>\n<li>Mallard (amber listed)<\/li>\n<li>Moorhen (amber listed)<\/li>\n<li>Redwing (amber listed)<\/li>\n<li>Song Thrush (amber listed)<\/li>\n<li>Stock Dove (amber listed)<\/li>\n<li>Wren (amber listed)<\/li>\n<li>Wood Pigeon (amber listed)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2527\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2527\" style=\"width: id=\"caption-attachment-2527\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Greenfinch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>Interesting Observation<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A Kingfisher was recorded flying across one of the ponds in Taddiforde Valley in January 2022; this is the first Kingfisher recorded during one of the bird surveys which have been running for the last 14 years.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2523\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2523\" style=\"width: 312px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/buddingnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/303\/2022\/04\/kingfisher.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2523 \" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/buddingnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/303\/2022\/04\/kingfisher.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"312\" height=\"213\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2523\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kingfisher<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>St Luke&#8217;s Campus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A total of 275 birds (18 species) were recorded during the visits, with the top three species recorded as:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Wood Pigeon<\/li>\n<li>Starling<\/li>\n<li>Herring Gull<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2531\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2531\" style=\"width:
