The University of Exeter Grounds Team shredded 2,067 Christmas trees!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

For the fourth year running, the University of Exeter’s Grounds Team have teamed up with the local charity Hospiscare<\/a> to recycle Christmas trees and support terminally ill people and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In exchange for a donation to Hopiscare, volunteers collected trees from households across Exeter, Exmouth, Ottery St Mary, Honiton, Sidmouth, Tiverton and Crediton. The trees were taken to the University’s Streatham Campus and shredded by the Grounds Team. The chippings will be sustainably used as mulch for the shrub beds on campus grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2,067 Christmas trees were collected by 78 volunteers and chipped by the Grounds Team – raising \u00a338,000 for Hospiscare. This amount raised will help deliver Hospiscare’s specialist end-of-life care for people living with a terminal diagnosis across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laura Robertson, Hospiscare’s Fundraising Projects Manager, said “your enthusiasm and hard work were instrumental in collecting and shredding 2,067 trees, allowing us to raise a staggering \u00a338,000! This amount could help to provide over 350 home visits to local patients and families who are receiving our care – what a difference you have all made to so many people!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership between the University of Exeter and Hospiscare is in its fourth year, and together, they have recycled over 6,500 trees with the scheme raising over \u00a393,000 for the charity since it began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
