The project aims to help us improve child and adolescent mental health by informing efforts to improve access to the right services at the right time. There are four specific research questions the project aims to answer including:<\/p><ol><li>Has there been a \u2018real terms\u2019 increase in children and young people with mental health problems and have any groups been particularly affected? What factors might be driving any increase?<\/li><li>Have there been changes in the ways that mental health problems affect children and young people? (e.g., in the impact on them or their families)<\/li><li>What is the current level of \u2018unmet need\u2019 for support and services in children and young people with mental health problems, and are there groups that are likely to be particularly under-served?<\/li><li>How can commissioners and service providers be better supported in planning current and future services to prevent and address child and adolescent mental health problems, and what data do they need about their populations?<\/li><\/ol><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-1591\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse1591\" aria-controls=\"collapse1591\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> What are the CHANGES research projects?<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse \" id=\"collapse1591\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-159\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-1591\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><p>The project has three phases:<\/p><ul><li><strong>PHASE 1<\/strong>: Studying trends over time and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on children and young people\u2019s mental health, using data from the national child mental health surveys (the British Child and Adolescent Mental Health Surveys, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.nhs.uk\/data-and-information\/publications\/statistical\/mental-health-of-children-and-young-people-in-england\">Mental Health of Children and Young People in England survey series<\/a>).<\/li><li><strong>PHASE 2<\/strong>: Examining mental health-related contact with support and services, and experiences of seeking help during the pandemic, using qualitative interview data and quantitative data from the national child mental health surveys.<\/li><li><strong>PHASE 3<\/strong>: Understanding commissioners\u2019 experiences of commissioning services for child and adolescent mental health, using qualitative interviews. This phase will also include workshops to identify ways in which we can improve research and resources to better support commissioners.
