However, the study of this initiative from a quantitative perspective has long been hindered by the lack of comprehensive empirical data. In this lecture, I will introduce a new global panel country-year dataset on construction and engineering, labor services, and design and consulting contracts signed by Chinese companies abroad between 2001 and 2019. After the discussion of how this dataset differs from others that are already available to the academic community, I will present the findings of one of the first research projects based on the new data, showing how the regime type of partner countries shapes China\u2019s human footprint overseas.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.exeter.ac.uk\/citizens-empowerment\/past-events\/citizens-climate-assemblies\/\">Citizens\u2019 Climate Assemblies: From Local to Global<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #3d3d3d;font-family: Lato, sans-serif;font-size: 17px\">This 90-minute online workshop showcased emerging research into two instances of online public deliberation on questions of how to respond to the climate emergency: the Devon Climate Assembly and the Global Climate Assembly. The talks addressed the role of citizens\u2019 assemblies in shaping climate policy, questions of scale in creating online deliberative mechanisms, and the use of citizens\u2019 assemblies in creating cross-cultural dialogue on climate issues.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.exeter.ac.uk\/citizens-empowerment\/past-events\/citizen-empowerment-in-global-perspective\/\">Citizen Empowerment in Global Perspective<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Exeter-Fudan Global Thought Network\u2019s first workshop for the citizens\u2019 empowerment and participation stream focused on showcasing and interrogating citizen empowerment in the 21st Century in both liberal and non-liberal contexts and from both normative and practice-oriented perspectives. It brought together academics from a variety of sub-disciplines ranging from public administration, political theory, comparative politics and international relations, with the aim of sharing ideas and research on citizen empowerment to bridge sub-disciplinary boundaries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please click on the menu items to see past events.
