This means that participant quotes and observations will be arranged in the form of <strong>data poems<\/strong> and <strong>dramatic scripts<\/strong>, with a view to using these as a way to disseminate findings for Phase Two of the Creative Club. This page provides a brief introduction to what these modes of inquiry might look like in practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Poetic Inquiry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-right is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">I had in mind writing sociologies which displayed how meaning was constructed, and which were helpful to people, and not boring.<\/p>\n<cite>Laurel Richardson <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Poetic inquiry<\/strong> can encompass many different forms and approaches. Sometimes the poetry is <em>researcher-voiced<\/em>, as a way to make sense of data from fieldwork observations. Sometimes the poetry is <em>participant-voiced<\/em>, using direct quotes from informants, which are then arranged in a poetic way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monica Prendergast (2009) gives a comprehensive review of poetic inquiry as method. To synthesise her findings, she wrote a poem entitled &#8220;Poetic Inquiry Is&#8230;&#8221;. This poem is a short and accessible introduction to the intent and purpose of poetic inquiry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To read the poem, <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/creativeclub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/471\/2024\/06\/Prendergast_Poetic-Inquiry-Is.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fern\u00e1ndez-Gim\u00e9nez, Jennings and Wilmer (2019) have written a series of brief case studies, showing how poetry has been used as a research method in natural resource science. They give examples of <em>researcher-voiced<\/em> and <em>participant-voiced<\/em> approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To read about the case studies, <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1080\/08941920.2018.1486493\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read my poem below, which provides an example of <em>literature-voiced<\/em> poetry. Here I use found text from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/opportunity\/ukri-cross-research-council-responsive-mode-pilot-scheme\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/opportunity\/ukri-cross-research-council-responsive-mode-pilot-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UKRI Cross Research Council Responsive Mode Pilot Scheme<\/a> to express recent ideas about interdisciplinarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" id=\"block-50a6fdfa-8cd5-4595-86b0-a4429e62fd1d\">Unlock<br>disruptive<br>reciprocity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" id=\"block-c36a2808-de47-474a-bede-b67aa8de65d4\">unexpected<br>ideas changed together<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" id=\"block-e2a53bab-5dc2-492e-b7b1-fb086780b880\">no clear &#8216;lead&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" id=\"block-a33a8ed5-a92f-4369-a23b-0a581254d055\"><em>only each other<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Performative Inquiry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-right is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">I believe that dramatic action is the <em>baseline <\/em>for interpreting what people say and do. People <em>act on <\/em>the world, we don&#8217;t just move along with it.<\/p>\n<cite>H. Lloyd Goodhall<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many ethnographers who turn their fieldnotes and interview transcripts into dramatic scripts, which may or may not be realised as a live performance.
