Joseph is a second-year LLB Law with Business student at the University of Exeter. He recently completed a research internship with the Exeter Centre for Environmental Law (ExCEL) under the supervision of Dr Chitzi Ogbumgbada, researching the environmental and humanitarian consequences of attacks on energy infrastructure during armed conflict. His interests include environmental law, international humanitarian law, human rights, and public international law. As part of his internship, he authored an article that is due to be published by the African Legal Studies Blog.

Reflection on my internship experience

My internship with ExCEL provided a valuable opportunity to develop my legal research and academic writing skills. During the internship, I researched and wrote an article examining whether attacks on energy infrastructure during armed conflict are compatible with international humanitarian law, considering both environmental and humanitarian consequences.

I particularly enjoyed exploring the intersection between environmental law and international humanitarian law and applying legal principles to a contemporary conflict. Having the article accepted for publication by the African Legal Studies Blog has been especially rewarding. The experience strengthened my confidence as a researcher and further developed my interest in public international law and environmental justice.
