I am an Environmental Science with Legal Proficiency BSc student. I am studying on the Penryn campus, where the Exeter Centre for Environmental Law(ExCEL) is based. Law has always been a point of interest for me, so I was really excited to study environmental law. The module surpassed my expectations – it led me to pursue legal opportunities beyond academics, including a research internship with ExCEL.
During my research internship, I researched student engagement with environmental law modules then I wrote an educational piece about my experiences studying environmental law. The internship was surprisingly reflective, I contemplated my own personal experience quite a bit; as well as the wider university and professional context of environmental law. I really enjoyed working with my supervisors, and gained a great insight into the professional academic field. In the beginning of the internship, I found balancing my studies with working on the internship challenging but as it progressed my time management improved. The internship increased my interest in environmental law and academia, which I hope to explore further.
