Take Action
Collate your analysis and exploration into achievable goals, review these regularly whether at 1:1s with your manager, coach or mentor, or put a reminder in your calendar at regular intervals to give yourself a nudge to review your actions.
- Set yourself achievable goals:
Aligning your goals to your development
In addition to the skills development identified in the previous section āUpskillā, there are a number of practical, workplace opportunities that you can consider:
- Undertake a project with a defined development aim and/or request/volunteer to join an existing project team.
- Volunteer to undertake a role with responsibilities in meetings or on a committee.
- Deputise for others in your team
- Join a relevant professional body (eg AHEP the professional body for all Professional Services colleagues)
- Attend cross-functional or professional events, eg those run by relevant professional bodies or events run by the University (these are usually identified in the Weekly Bulletin). These donāt have to be in your current area of work, and they can be great places to informally network with other colleagues.
- Formal arrangements such as Job shadowing or Secondments ā these do not need to be full-time but will require engagement with your line manager in the first instance.
