On <strong>7th November<\/strong> we showed the films to a mixed audience as part of the <strong>Wellcome Centre for the Cultures and Environments of Health<\/strong> public event <em><strong>\u2018Researching Disability and Impairment: Creativity, Engagement and Social Change\u2019<\/strong><\/em>. Organised by Charlotte Jones and Luna Dolezal, and held at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) in Exeter, it was a fascinating event with presentations and discussions touching on a variety of issues, from the ethics of research data to the experience of \u2018time\u2019 in the context of \u2018medical waiting\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>We were extremely fortunate that <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/artistsbiographies\/eddie-callis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Eddie Callis<\/strong><\/a> and his mother Jacqui were able to travel up from Cornwall to take part. In answer to questions posed by his mother, Eddie spoke about his experience of taking part in the production of the ExDxFilms and how he has continued with the art of animation. Bringing along both paper artwork and animation on his lap-top, Eddie showed us how he is producing an ebook to describe some of the challenges he faces in his daily life, including certain \u2018triggers\u2019. Eddie also delighted us by sketching through the afternoon producing some wonderful outlines of people, beautifully capturing their personas with just a few well-placed lines. Below is an example his work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EddieCallis11thNov.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2012 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EddieCallis11thNov-225x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EddieCallis11thNov-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EddieCallis11thNov.png 647w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just a few days later on the <strong>11<sup>th<\/sup> November<\/strong> Eddie joined us once again, this time at an early evening showing of the films at the <strong>Cornwall Film Festival<\/strong> in <strong>Falmouth<\/strong>. The public event was entitled <strong><em>Thinking Differently! Celebrating Neurodiversity.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/FalmouthNov.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2014 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/FalmouthNov-300x224.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/FalmouthNov-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/FalmouthNov-768x575.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/FalmouthNov.png 862w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Again the room was set up with a table area for <strong>Eddie<\/strong> to sketch and to show his work \u2013 and again Eddie held the audience describing his experience with ExDxFims brilliantly and his on-going use of animation to express his challenges and feelings.<\/p>\n<p>We are very much indebted to Eddie, and his family, for coming to these two events.\u00a0 Eddie\u2019s presence added greatly to the value of the events.\u00a0 We would also like to thank <strong>Louise Fox<\/strong>, Director of the Cornwall Film Festival, and all her colleagues, for so generously and warmly supporting the Event.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly on the <strong>4<sup>th<\/sup> Decembe<\/strong>r we were back in Exeter showing the ExDxFilms at the <strong>THE ExIST STEAMM SHOW <\/strong>at the<strong> Exeter School of Art. <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Our audience during the day included students and educators from the surrounding area and in the evening members of the public.\u00a0 It was a great event with presentations covering technology, dance and virtual reality (VR), Smart Cities and solar artworks to name but a few.\u00a0 The ExDxFilms once again received good feedback.\u00a0 Our pile of leaflets on <strong>Autism and Neurodiversity<\/strong> disappeared rapidly and several tutors spoke of including the Films in their future lectures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EXisT.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2013 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EXisT-300x224.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EXisT-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EXisT-768x575.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/exploringdiagnosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/719\/2019\/12\/EXisT.png 862w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have had a very busy time with the ExDxFilms over the past few weeks!
