In the winter season we look at taste – as a sense, a preference and an identity marker to explore the ways in which food and eating are not only sensory, but also social. We start with the classic Japanese film Tampopo, which follows a single mother & ramen shop owner’s journey to make the tastiest bowl of noodles. We then look deeper into the life of the ramen bar with documentary Come Back Anytime. Our final film navigates the rarefied world of fine wine – a drink often associated with high status and high incomes. The documentary Blind Ambition follows the trials and tribulations of a team of Zimbabwean sommeliers as they prepare to compete in the Olympics of the wine world for the first time. You’ll also have the chance to stimulate your own senses during the season with wine tasting, ramen noodle soup making and much more.
