We kick off with the arthouse documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/exeterphoenix.org.uk\/events\/food-on-film-the-gleaners-and-i\/\">THE GLEANERS AND I<\/a> (10th Oct) which follows the lives of those who forage, glean and harvest in France today, raising questions about contemporary Western society and the complex mixture of excess, waste and poverty it creates. On the 14th of October we look a little closer at food growing and harvesting with a hands-on <a href=\"https:\/\/exeterphoenix.org.uk\/events\/food-on-film-exeter-growers-co-operative-visit-and-growing-experience\/\">VISIT TO EXETER GROWERS\u2019 CO-OPERATIVE<\/a> (14th Oct). We then move onto food waste with <a href=\"https:\/\/exeterphoenix.org.uk\/events\/food-on-film-wasted-the-story-of-food-waste-15-intro\/\">WASTED!<\/a> (16th Oct), which lifts the lid on some of the issues in the food system. The season finishes with classic food film BABETTE\u2019S FEAST (22nd Oct) and the complex moralities of feasting and frugality that play out when Babette creates an opulent feast for a puritanical, Lutheran community in 19th Century Denmark. After the film, food historian and regular on <a href=\"https:\/\/exeterphoenix.org.uk\/events\/food-on-film-annie-gray-feast-famine-and-fads\/\">Radio 4\u2019s Kitchen Cabinet Annie Gray will give a talk<\/a> exploring historical instances of excess, abstinence and food fads inspired by <a href=\"https:\/\/exeterphoenix.org.uk\/events\/food-on-film-babettes-feast-u\/\">BABETTE&#8217;S FEAST<\/a>.
