Today we hear from Daniel Jesusireyami Akih who graduated from our MSc Applied Data Science (Renewable Energy) course in 2023.

Please give us a bit of background about what made you choose to study Applied Data Science (Renewable Energy) with us at the University of Exeter in Cornwall?
I’ve always been interested in renewable energy, and the Applied Data Science programme at the University of Exeter in Cornwall provided a great opportunity to combine my passion with the development of critical data science skills. The program’s unique focus on merging data science and renewable energy was ideal for my career goals.

What did you enjoy most about studying methods to understand data and modelling tools for solving challenges?
For me, the program’s emphasis on hands-on learning in data approaches and modelling tools stood out. It went beyond theory by incorporating real-world data science problems into modules, resulting in a practical and analytical approach that considerably prepared us for the challenges of our future employment.
Furthermore, engaging in real-world data science challenges not only improved my skills but also made the learning process more engaging and relatable, developing a stronger connection to the material.

Do you have any advice for anyone thinking of applying to any of our programmes in Applied Data Science at the University of Exeter?
