I did my undergraduate degree here in one of the geology programmes and loved it so much I wanted to stay another year! I was awarded the Camborne School of Mines Trust Scholarship. After combining this scholarship with the Univer<\/a>sity of Exeter Alumni scholarship<\/a>, the programme became incredibly affordable for me.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

The Career Zone<\/a> at the university is amazing, you can book meetings with them for anything, ranging from career progression into industry, or postgraduate study.\u00a0I’ve had a meeting with them where I spoke through the process of applying for a PhD, which made me feel extremely informed about going into academia after my course.\u00a0The industry career path after university also excites me, especially after seeing my peers working in countries such as Canada and Australia.\u00a0 I am so pleased about the career options my course offers me after university, and I really believe I can do anything I put my heart to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During my master\u2019s, my favourite module so far has been ‘Mine Waste Characterisation, Prediction and Treatment’.\u00a0 The module is a perfect blend of lectures, computer practicals and fieldwork, making the learning environment dynamic and interesting.\u00a0 The lecturers are always there to help with any problems during our studies, particularly in our research project, which accounts for half of our degree.\u00a0 As part of this research module, we have a trip to Cyprus in March, which will be a fantastic opportunity to apply all our classroom learning to a new context.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Living in Cornwall is a perfect fit for me.\u00a0 Not only is it surrounded by amazing geology, but there is a real sense of home.\u00a0 Coming from a small countryside town, Falmouth really feels like a home away from home, but still retaining that student lifestyle.\u00a0 I had my first year in university halls on campus, which was perfect when getting to know the area; I felt in safe hands living on campus with security, while living away from home for the first time.\u00a0 I ended up finding my friends for life during my stay in halls; I lived with them for the whole 3 years of my undergraduate degree!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The thing that surprised me most about Exeter is how close knit my course was. In both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, there were never more than around 45 students in my lectures, with some modules having as little as 5 of us in the class.\u00a0This meant that I could get to know my course mates and lecturers really well; I never felt lonely. I think this is a really good quality of my course at the University of Exeter, as it gave me a sense of belonging, making my time at university unforgettable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
