Centre for Interdisciplinary Holocaust and Genocide Studies
My name is Elizabeth Small, I am part of the Romani community in Devon but with links nationwide. For many years I worked with the Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality Council, raising awareness of the issues Gypsies and Travellers face, including prejudice in education and health care. I also worked extensively on the research for the film “Porraijmos” which tells the little known story of Romani holocaust during the second world war. It is my passion that people understand that the Romani community in Europe suffered such losses that they lost even more than the Jews. I am also spurred on by the fact that the world hasn’t seemed to have learnt from history regarding the Romani people. I want to see change and that can only come from education.
