William Gallois is Professor of the Islamic Mediterranean at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. While his work looks primarily at tracing indigenous forms of life in the colonial period, he has also worked extensively on the effects of European violence in North Africa. An especial focus has been the writing of Algeria into the field of colonial genocide in essays for The Journal of Genocide Studies and the Cambridge World History of Genocide.
