Improving Continence in children and young people with neurodisability
The aim of the ICoN study was to summarise the available evidence for interventions relating to improving continence for children and young people with neurodisability, sometimes referred to as special educational needs and disability. We did this using an online survey and a systematic review.
The project consisted of four phases; preparation, consultation, review and integration. We established a Professional Advisory Group and a Family Faculty public involvement working group in order to help us develop the survey and systematic review in the preparation phase. The survey and systematic review took place in the consultation and review stages of the project. At the integration stage of the project, we collated our findings from the survey and systematic review together, and interpreted them in consultation with our expert Professional Advisory Group and the Family Faculty public involvement working group. This enabled us to summarise the evidence for continence interventions and make recommendations for research and clinical practice for improving continence for children and young people with neurodisability.
