Research in Education and Identity
Hello 🌿,
Are you a parent or carer of an 11–16-year-old from a Central Asian or Azerbaijani background? Would you be willing for your child to take part in a research study at the University of Exeter? If so, please continue reading.
My name is Ilaha Baghirova. I am undertaking a PhD study focusing on what it is like to be from a Central Asian or Azerbaijani background in English secondary schools.
I am interested in how students describe and interpret their experiences in lessons, especially when topics such as Muslims, Islam, or culture are mentioned.
The aim of the study is to listen to students’ own perspectives and experiences and to better understand how experiences in school are interpreted by students from Central Asian and Azerbaijani family backgrounds and how these experiences relate to their sense of identity. The study is not about testing students, judging schools, teachers, or families, or checking what anyone “knows”, but it is about better understanding the educational experiences of these young people.
Participation is voluntary. All information will be kept confidential and anonymised, and you or your child can withdraw at any time.
If you are happy for your child to take part or would like more information, please fill in the form below. I will then contact you to arrange an introductory meeting to answer any questions and provide further information.
