The The Phoenix Education Trust is a charity at the intersection between mainstream and alternative education – we work closely with providers outside of mainstream schooling who are offering democratic and self-directed learning to children and young people, whilst also working to create systemic change in mainstream settings by promoting rights respecting education and student voice.   

What was your biggest achievement on your internship? 

My biggest achievement was covering a major event for the organisation. I rented a camera, captured high-quality video and images and edited the footage to create a professional trailer. 

Were there any challenges and how did you overcome these?  

A the start of my internship I faced the challenge of understanding the organisation on a deeper level.  To address this, I worked meticulously to prioritise tasks of utmost importance by consulting and meeting with my manager, enabling me to successfully complete my tasks.  

What were your reasons for undertaking this internship?   

  • To gain experience and knowledge within a specific occupation or field.

  • To improve my job prospects by expanding my CV and what I can draw upon in interviews.

Would you recommend this internship scheme to other students? 

Yes, I would recommend this internship scheme to other students. For me it was really helpful in providing exposure to a variety of local SMEs and building my confidence working in a new country. I also learnt new theoretical education concepts that I applied to my work during my internship.
