What was your biggest achievement on your internship?

I developed an awareness of what working in research is truly like and realised that it is not usually a straightforward process. I now feel I could bring skills and insight into another research projects in the future and be an integral team member.Ā

Were there any challenges and how did you overcome these?

Yes, not everything was simple. For example, we had to do an ethics application to undertake our research which was not initially accepted and this halted our progress. On top of this, we didn’t always get the results we were expecting, meaning we had to change and tweak our plan for the rest of the research. This wasn’t a bad thing but it was challenging. In my experience of conducting scientific experiments outcomes normally always happen as you plan or expect. But, in the case of research and development this is rarely the case.

What were your reasons for undertaking this internship?

  • I was able to complete the tasks assigned to me.
  • I received regular feedback from my manager/supervisor.

Would you recommend this internship scheme to other students?

Yes, I would recommend students take on an internship because it is an invaluable experience with great pay too ā€“ there’s no downside really!
