Job Title: Social Media & Marketing Intern 

Description of Organisation: 

She for Her is a community interest company based in Plymouth that aims to help refugee and asylum seeking women feel more confident interacting with various authority figures they come into contact with as well as the local community. We hope to leave them feeling empowered to stand up for their rights and feeling a more valued part of the Plymouth community. We do this by running support groups, building campaigns with local businesses, challenging authority figures to make concrete changes amongst many other things. We use the personal experiences of our founder Gunel to do this the best we can. 

What was your biggest achievement on your internship? 

My biggest achievement was setting up the entire online presence for She for Her. They now have a website, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn that are all cohesive, explain who they are and what they do. This is a really important achievement for me because it can act as an entire portfolio if I was to apply for marketing, communications or PR jobs post-graduation. 

Were there any challenges and how did you overcome these? 

In this role I was given significant amount of freedom which was great as it  allowed me to develop my creativity. However, it also required me to improve my time management skills to meet the tasks and expecations of me.  

What were your reasons for undertaking this internship?   

  • To improve my job prospects by expanding my CV and what I can draw upon in interviews. 
  •  To gain experience and knowledge within a specific occupation or field.  
  • To build new connections. 

During the internship… 

  • I received learning and development opportunities which could be helpful for my career (e.g., online courses or mentoring).  
  • I was able to complete the tasks assigned to me. 
  • I received regular feedback from my manager. 
  • I received sufficient training to undertake the role. 
  • Overall, this internship was a positive experience.

  • I have improved my communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills.

I would definitely recommend this internship scheme to other students, I think it’s an amazing scheme and is so straightforward to apply.
